Among the variety and choices of cleaning tools, electric mops are one of my favorites. I’ve always used one and always will.
Whether you prefer a spin mop, a vacuum mop, a robot mop, or a steam mop, they are all efficient and effective on many types of floors, including tile, vinyl, and linoleum flooring (although there is an ongoing debate about wooden floors).
The popularity of electric mops is due to the fact that they do all the hard work for you, sweeping and mopping the floors using rotating or heating cleaning pads and onboard water.
They don’t require any cleaning solutions, and they leave floors clean without having to scrub them.
What’s not to love about an electric mop? Probably, just the price as some options can be more expensive than the traditional mop and bucket.
And because they are electric appliances, they may not last a lifetime. But they are worth every penny you invest.
We searched the internet extensively to find the best electric mops available. Out of 16 models, we tested the 12 most promising ones for a duration of 6 hours. Based on our findings, we’ve compiled this list.
We determined that the Bissell SpinWave is the best overall option for tackling tough spills or stains. However, since it’s a corded model, we recommend the VMAI Electric Spin Mop to be the best cordless alternative. But if you’re looking for an automatic solution, consider the iRobot Braava Jet Robot Mop.
Our Top Picks
Best Overall
:Bissell SpinWave PET Hard Floor Spin Mop
What We Like
- An-demand spray mop function
- 2-Year warranty included
- Outstanding customer support
- A bottle of a multi-surface floor cleaner included
- Very quiet
What We Don’t Like
- Stiff rotating pads after frequent use
- Sticky floors if the floor cleaning solution is used
Excellent performance, ease of use, sleek design, and affordable pricing put the Bissell SpinWave at the top of our best electric mop picks.
Featuring two rotating mop pads, this electric spin mop performed excellently during our testing session. It tackled spills, spots, and tough messes on any of our sealed surfaces, including wooden and laminate floors.
And if you’re wondering what the “PET” attribute means, it simply indicates that the mop is part of Bissell’s Pet series, which is specifically designed to handle pet messes.
We also appreciated the 28-ounce water tank – the largest capacity on this list – and the 22-foot power cord – the longest, too. So it was perfect for cleaning both small and large rooms without having to stop constantly.
And even with a large water tank, the Bissell SpinWave is one of the lightest options. Our testers found it very easy to pull. It’s also a self-propelled machine so there was no need to exert much effort in pushing it.
And speaking of the design, we noticed that it’s very easy to maneuver and navigate around the floors for an electric appliance thanks to swivel steering.
The only hiccup with this Bissell mop is that the pad design doesn’t allow it to reach corners. So you may have to deep clean with another mop from time to time.
We also found the scrubbing pads to be too gentle on stubborn stains so we had to spray more cleaning solution and make several passes. Still, this mop is an outstanding choice given its high performance and reasonable price.
Many customers noted that this spin mop made their floors spotless without breaking their backs and with minimal effort. In addition, reviewers said that it’s particularly effective on pet messes and the pads are so easy to pop on and off.
Unhappy customers criticized this mop for its inability to scrub even with the scrubber pad unless you pre-treat the floors.

:VMAI Electric Spin Mop
What We Like
- Lifetime customer support
- Easy to assemble and disassemble
- Machine-washable pads
- Practical LED headlights
What We Don’t Like
- May leave streaks
The VMAI electric spin mop is a cordless model, so you don’t have to plug it to an electric outlet to use it.
This means two things: First, it works using a battery and this one has a long lasting duration of 40 – 60 minutes after only 3 hours of charging time. This covers a 2150 square foot area according to the manufacturer, and this is confirmed by many users.
Second, the mop has been designed with lightweight and comfort in mind. We noticed and appreciated the easy-to-use design, which allows for cleaning with a single hand.
We also liked the flexible and free-standing design, which enables you to clean without straining your back and store the mop without taking up floor space.
Plus, we found the VMAI spin mop to be relatively quiet, with a sound level of only 60dB, making it much quieter than other models on our list.
This cordless mop also provides an adjustable spray function and lets you choose how much liquid you want to release. This ability allows for plenty of flexibility depending on the type of floors you want to clean.
This also means you can use the VMAI mop on wooden floors, whether hardwood or laminate. To scrub wooden floors, the manufacturer even suggests adding wax oil to the water tank.
However, the spray function has a clumsy design and may stop working after a few months of use. In such a case, reach out to customer support. They’re amazing and will send you a new one for free.
Customers love the mop’s effectiveness, particularly on pet messes and cleaning baseboards. Many also noted how the pads hold up well and can be easily washed after each use.
Dissatisfied users didn’t like how far the spray function can go, requiring them to lift the mop and face the sprayer in the right direction.

Best for Hardwood floors
:Shark Pro Cordless Hard Floor Vacuum Mop
What We Like
- Inexpensive
- No-touch dirt disposal
- Magnetic charger
What We Don’t Like
- Not free-standing
Although several mops on our list are suitable for hardwood floors, this Shark Pro Vacuum Mop seems to be designed just for these surfaces. Just make sure they’ve been sealed beforehand.
Not only does this Shark vacuum mop perform well on wooden surfaces (laminate, too), but it comes with multiple disposable pads that are gentle enough to clean your hardwood floors without scratching them.
The light on the head floors also helps to identify dust and dirt on dark wooden floors and between planks – areas where it’s usually difficult to see them.
As an added bonus, it vacuums too, using a powerful suction. With this super suction-mopping combo, no need to waste time tackling both tasks separately.
We also appreciated the cordless design that we find particularly convenient. However, being cordless also means that it runs on batteries and has limited autonomy.
With this Shark appliance, you shouldn’t be alarmed as a user reports being able to clean a 1000 sqft area in a single use. If that’s too short for you, the charging time beats all the records with only 15 minutes of charging time.
Just be aware that the dirt pads can re-soil the floors. And since they’re disposable, you’ll need to purchase them again and again.
But their cost is relatively inexpensive. And aside from that, we think this mop is a great and effective option for floor cleaning.
Many reviewers said that the suction is strong. Combined with the mopping function, it reduces the cleaning session frequencies. They also said that the design is small and lightweight making it easy to take up and down stairs.
However, some were upset that it doesn’t work on carpet or rug areas. So they still had to rely on their old regular vacuum to clean those surfaces.

Best Steam Mop
:Shark Steam Pocket Mop Hard Floor Cleaner
What We Like
- Fast heating
- Quick-release cord feature
- Easy to maneuver
What We Don’t Like
- Requires manual pumping for steam release
- Small water tank
Hot steam from this Shark steam pocket mop lifts away grime, dirt and loosens stains and spills – and this is exactly what you need to clean your hard surfaces (such as tile floors).
But what makes this electric mop stand out from its competitors is its powerful performance for a reasonable price.
The mop provides on-demand steam. This feature, combined with the double-sided mop cleaning pad, allowed us to get out tough, dried-on messes on large surfaces and for long testing cleaning sessions.
We also appreciated that this Shark steam mop comes with a bunch of extra accessories and features: 2 pads, a filling flask and a quick release cord wrap.
Speaking of the cord, it’s on the short side compared to other models on our list. And note that the cord is shorter on most recent models and longer on older ones (18 ft vs. 30 ft). But it was long enough to clean our large living room.
This mop also has a slim, lightweight, and comfortable soft-grip handle design that made mopping enjoyable. During our testing, the weight and overall design made it very portable, even with the cleaning solution tank completely filled.
And unlike other picks, it has proved us efficient with heating and cooling in seconds.
We noted that the Shark steam pocket mop doesn’t stay in place on its own, though. We struggled a bit to make it stand. So if you don’t have a closed closet to store it you may have issues finding a place where to store it safely.
This issue can be easily resolved by using a wall-mounted storage rack.
All in all, while this mop doesn’t come with fancy features, efficient cleaning, and easy portability make it a standout for its price.
Customers were impressed by the mop’s ability to lift off tough stains in seconds. They also enjoyed the swivel head that flips for two-sided cleaning.
However, unhappy customers noticed that it leaves a small amount of debris in each corner. So they had to clean the corners manually. And they regretted the lack of on/off switch button.

Best Robot Mop
:iRobot Braava Jet Robot Mop
What We Like
- Quiet cleaning
- Long run-time of 180 minutes
- Streak-free floors
What We Don’t Like
- Difficulty docking for recharge when the battery is low
Not only will This iRobot Braava Jet robot mop did all the mopping work for us, but it did it remarkably well and for a fraction of the price of other similar models.
Even though it doesn’t include a vacuuming function, this small robot mop impressed with its cleaning performance. Equipped with smart navigation, it removed dirt and mess in our kitchen in a single pass (or row).
And the precision jet spray feature made sure that it doesn’t spray too much water or cleaning solution, leaving our kitchen floors spotless.
We also appreciated its ease of use. We basically just had to press the start button and the robot did the rest.
It doesn’t come with any advanced smart features, just the basic settings you could expect from an affordable robot mop: smart mapping and keep-out zones. Its small size made it practical for cleaning hard-to-reach areas, and its square shape ensured that it doesn’t miss corners.
You can also choose between wet, damp, or dry sweeping pads if you plan to mop delicate surfaces. These are all disposable and there is no possibility for you to use washable ones.
If you don’t mind the added expense, you can purchase the iRobot Braava Jet mop for an effective mopping experience. And again, at a low price point.
Happy customers were surprised by the dry mopping efficiency, saying that the Braava Jet can pick up all the small particles that the vacuum doesn’t catch. They were also pleased that it can operate while people are around without disrupting the space.
But some reviewers were disappointed by the limited choice of compatible cleaning solutions as the only iRobot brand cleaning solution is supported.

Other Options We Picked
Bissell Symphony Pet Steam/Vacuum Mop Combo: This Bissell Symphony is a vacuum steam mop combo and this is the reason why it’s not on our top list. While its cleaning performance would deserve the first spot, the fact that it’s a steam mop limits the surfaces that can be cleaned with it. However, you can choose the level of steam you want to use. And a trigger button lets you also decide whether or not to use steam. We also prefer to have a separate steam cleaner to clean surfaces other than floors. But if steam cleaning is what you need and you only have compatible hard surfaces to clean, this Bissell Symphony is a mop to seriously consider.
Bissell Powerfresh Deluxe steam mop. This other Bissell steam mop also performs well and has a lot of positive features. It has a 12-inch cleaning head that glides smoothly over floors, a spot boost brush to tackle tough messes, and digital steam controls. But it doesn’t come with many accessories, which limits its use to cleaning floors only. Again, if cleaning your floors is the only purpose, this steam mop could satisfy you considering its smart features, excellent cleaning capabilities, and easy maneuverability.
Bissell CrossWave dry/wet mop: This Bissell has outstanding features and it was hard not to include it on our top list. First, it’s a vacuum mop combo so designed to vacuum and wash the floors simultaneously. Second, it has an impressive number of accessories and finally, can be used on carpets and rug areas as well. But it’s a corded model and lacks advanced features compared to other models on our list. However, it’s still a very good option to consider for its performance and versatility.
How We Picked and Tested
To select the best electric mop, we conducted extensive online research to understand the key features to consider when purchasing this type of appliance.
We first examined articles written by experts in the fields of steam cleaning and mopping. We perused discussions in cleaning forums and read customers’ reviews of electric mops. We also watched YouTube Videos from real-world users who have tested these products. Lastly, we checked Instagram accounts using electric mops, keeping in mind that some of these reviews may be influenced by companies providing free samples.
Based on this first research phase, we researched dozens of electric mops from home improvement stores and big retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Target.
After thorough analysis, we narrowed our list down to the top 5 electric mops (+ 3 other options). Our top picks are all rated four stars or higher on Amazon.com and all of them meet the following criteria:
- High performance,
- Extensive floor compatibility,
- Portability and maneuverability,
- Specialized attachments for various surfaces,
- Extra features: Variable steam settings, efficient water heating, eco-mode or LED indicators
We also considered other factors like price, brand reputation, and post-purchase support, including warranty and quality of customer service.
Next, we conducted real-life testing of several electric mops from our shortlist. We tested these models on various types of flooring, including tile, hardwood, and laminate, to assess their ability to clean stains, dirt, and grime effectively.
We evaluated their versatility by examining their performance on other surfaces like bathroom tiles or stone floors, and checking if they offer features like big tank capacity. We also assessed their ease of use, comfortable portability, noise levels, and durability.
We compiled all our findings, including the results of our testing sessions, in a comprehensive spreadsheet. For each criterion, we assigned a rating out of 10.
After considering all these factors, we were able to identify our top picks for different flooring types and categorize the best options for each.
What To Look For in an Electric Mop
Types and Floors Compatibility
Depending on your floor type, you may need a specific electric mop.
- Spin mops, robot mops, and vacuum mops are suitable for any type of floor. But if you use them on wooden floors, make sure that they leave the floors damp and not wet.
- Electric steam mops use vapor from hot water to naturally clean and disinfect your floors. So don’t use it on wooden floors. But you can use a steam mop for any other type of floor.
Corded or Cordless
Choosing between a corded or a cordless model will depend on the surface you have to clean.
If you have a large area, you’ll need an electric mop with a long battery life or a long cord. If the battery doesn’t last long, consider the charging time it needs to be reloaded.
Some models can take several hours to charge – which can be very frustrating if you’re in the middle of a cleaning session.
If the cord is not long enough, make sure you have enough electrical outlets in the rooms you want to mop.
Water Tank Capacity
The water tank capacity will determine how much surface you can clean before refilling the tank.
Again, it’s important to choose a water tank capacity that is large enough to cover the surface you have to clean.
Also, some electric mops and water tanks are compatible with specific cleaning solutions, while others can only have water. Make sure to check the cleaning solution compatibility before purchasing a specific model.
Extra Features
There are also extra features to consider when you’re choosing a mop. Some electric mops come with extra mop heads, cleaning solutions, or other cleaning accessories.
Many electric mops also come with ergonomic features such as telescoping handles that let you adjust the height.
Make sure to consider what accessories and attachments are included with the electric mop, as these can significantly impact the effectiveness of the mop.
